Surge Team Values

SPEED

“Move with a sense of urgency. Do the right thing without being told.”

Speed at Surge is defined as the ability to act swiftly and decisively, both physically and mentally, in every situation. A team that values speed makes it a priority in training and daily habits.

Parent: Give your swimmer room to make decisions, take action, and learn from the outcome. Speed grows when athletes are trusted to think for themselves and confidently choose the right next step.

Swimmer: Move with purpose in everything you do. Get in the water on time, listen the first time, and transition quickly between sets. Speed means recognizing the right thing to do and doing it without waiting to be told.

Coach: Create bold and brave swimmers. Set clear expectations, start on time, and hold swimmers accountable for moving with purpose. Speed is not being rushed or careless, you can move with speed if you are prepared and focused.

UNITY

”We are not a team because we swim together. We are a team because we believe in each other.”

Unity within Surge is defined as the strength that comes from being aligned and working together toward common goals. Unity fosters collaboration, mutual respect, and accountability.

Parent: Prioritize the success of the group over the spotlight on one. Speak with one voice. Model alignment with coaches. Build community with other families.

Swimmer: Put the team before yourself. Unity means swimming for more than your own time; it’s knowing your effort lifts everyone in the lane.

Coach: Build one program, not many groups. Use shared language, shared purpose, and shared vision to unite athletes across groups and ages.

RELENTLESSNESS

”Excellence is not an act, but a habit. And that habit is built daily.”

Relentlessness at Surge is defined as embracing the Can-Do Attitude. It is the unwavering drive to push forward, regardless of obstacles or setbacks. A relentless team prioritizes courage over comfort, maintaining a high level of energy and persistence even in the face of adversity.

Parent: Show up with consistency and calm resolve. Stay steady through highs and lows and teach your swimmer that adversity is part of greatness.

Swimmer: Do what others won’t. Hold the standard, day after day. Attack practice with focus. Pursue progress in the quiet moments no one sees.

Coach: Lead with purposeful energy, intentionality, and belief. Never settle for “good enough.” Demand the details every set, from every swimmer, every day.

GROWTH

“In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth, or step back into safety.”

At Surge, growth is shown through commitment to continuous improvement and learning. Growth means not just developing skills and abilities but evolving mentally and emotionally, adapting to challenges, and striving to be better each day.

Parent: Praise grit and learning, not just winning. Encourage your swimmer to embrace challenges, learn from loss, and take ownership of their journey.

Swimmer: View every practice as a chance to level up. Growth comes when you’re uncomfortable, when you lean in, when you ask questions, and when you own your effort.

Coach: Build a culture where feedback is fuel. Teach swimmers how to think about swimming, not just what to do. Focus on the process, progression, and potential.

ENCOURAGEMENT

“We believe every athlete is worthy of being seen, heard, and inspired.”

At Surge, encouragement means giving courage to those around you. Encouragement lifts others up through positive reinforcement and belief, creating an environment where everyone feels empowered to achieve excellence.

Parent: Be your swimmer’s safe space. Encourage effort, resilience, and character. Cheer for every swimmer, not just your own.

Swimmer: Be the kind of teammate others want around. Use your words and energy to lift up, not pull down. Positivity is powerful.

Coach: Speak belief into every athlete. Encourage not only the confident but especially the quiet, the developing, the struggling. Remind them what they’re capable of.
